Somalia is located on the Northeast African peninsula, commonly known as the Horn of Africa. It’s bordered by Kenya to the southwest, Ethiopia to the west, Djibouti to the northwest, the Gulf of Aden to the north and the Indian Ocean to the east. Somalia’s coastline is about 3,300 kilometres long, making it the longest coastline on the continent’s mainland. Its climate is tropical, with hot conditions prevailing year-round, with two rainfall seasons.

Somalia has a population of about 15 million people, and over 2 million live in the capital of Mogadishu. With about 84% of the population being native Somalis, Somalia is described as the most culturally homogenous country in Africa. The official languages are Somali and Arabic.
